Who should pay for the Uber home?
Guilty
The short answer
Split by stops: equal for a shared ride, more for whoever lives farther. Getting out first does not end the debt.
The ruling
From the public record. Names are replaced with roles.

Case no.PC-2026-00124
The friend who paid for the ride v. The friend who got out first
Filed 10/05/2026
- Plaintiff
- The friend who paid for the ride
- Defendant
- The friend who got out first
Statement of claim
We shared an Uber home. I paid the $34. She got out first and said she would send me half. That was nine days ago.
Charge
Non-payment of half of a $34 shared ride, outstanding nine days
Judgment
Guilty
Friend found guilty of getting out first and forgetting the $17
Sentence
The defendant will send $17 today and pay for the next shared ride in full.
How the court usually rules on this
The court splits rides fairly, not evenly. When stops are close, it is half each. When one person's stop adds a long detour, that person pays more. The commonest offense is the passenger who gets out first and never sends a share, which the court treats as a small unpaid debt.
