Is it rude to double text a friend?

Both at fault

The short answer

A second text after a day of silence is fine. Fourteen in an hour is not, and neither is reading all fourteen and saying nothing for two days.

How the court usually rules on this

The court does not consider a follow-up text rude, especially when the first one asked a question. Volume matters: a run of messages in a short time pressures the other person to answer at once. On the other side, reading messages and waiting days to reply invites the next text. These cases often end with both friends at fault.
