Is it rude to leave a group chat without saying anything?

Guilty

The short answer

It depends on the chat. Leaving a big event chat is fine; leaving a small friends chat with no word reads as a statement.

How the court usually rules on this

The court separates chats by size and purpose. Leaving a chat for a past event is housekeeping. Leaving a small chat of close friends, or a chat for a trip still being planned, without any message, is treated as a minor offense because the others are left guessing.
