Not guilty

The short answer

At a large party, slipping out without saying goodbye is acceptable, and often kinder. At a dinner for six, it is not.

Just for fun. Written by a computer judge. Not a real court, not legal advice, no legal effect.

How the court usually rules on this

The court considers the size of the gathering first. At a large party, interrupting the host to say goodbye can be more disruptive than leaving quietly, and a text later is enough. At a small dinner, the host notices every departure and is owed a goodbye. Leaving without a word in the middle of a conversation with the host is the exception that loses.
